HUAYNA POTOSI 6088 MTS

At 6,088 meters or 19,974 feet, Huayna Potosi (literally, "Young Riches") is a beautiful and massive glaciated peak which dominates the view as you come in to land at the La Paz airport. Multiple route choices are available ranging from a number of standard routes on the beautiful east face to some of the most challenging and direct routes to be found anywhere in the Andes on the imposing west face. Although situated on the outskirts of La Paz, sufficient time must be spent acclimating before any summit attempt on this high-altitude peak.

This peak is impressive and justifiably popular. It's one of the easiest 6000m peaks in Bolivia. the peak is high and acclimatization is essential before to climb.
During the day it is quite warm and windy (+15oC). Nights are cold at the high camp (-10oC). Grade : AD (fairly difficult), 50°, 800 ms, 6 -7 hours from high camp.
Snow condition deteriorate in the afternoon so it is start back early.

HUAYNA POTOSI 6088 (CLASSICAL 2 Days)

Monolithic and pyramidal shape, situated between the Condoriri and Chacaltaya massif Of little difficulty, this climbs allows you to pass the six thousand meter barrier.
1 Day: Base camp/high camp. Departure from La Paz (agency) to the base camp (9 am -4750 meters), 2 hours by car. Hiking to the high camp ( 5250 meters) just before the glacier, takes 2 hours . Mountain practice in the afternoon. Camp
2 Day : Summit. Departure early at 3am . From the high camp, head up the Glacier and then join a short wall with 200 m/650 ft of 40° and 50° (reached in 3 hours). Cross slopes and crevasses and from here head left to the pass, witch is reached in 2 hours and has views of lake Titikaka anf Yungas.Then head down to rejoin your track to high camp (3 hours), a rappel speed up the descent . It takes 3 hours down to the road. Return by jeep to La Paz (2 hours).
